Hair Etc. Magazine proceeds for Breast Cancer Research Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in African American women according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). Even though black women are less likely than white women to get breast cancer, they are more likely to be diagnosed with the late stage disease and die from it. This racial disparity, according to the SC Cancer Alliance, is larger in South Carolina than in the nation. As a statewide ethnic health and beauty magazine, we feel it's our responsibility to support our community by way of donating proceeds from our magazine sales to Hollings Cancer Center for breast cancer research. We want to help bridge the health disparity gap within the African American community in South Carolina. We have dedicated their front cover to breast cancer awareness. Each of our beautiful cover models are wearing pink dresses. As we live up to our signature line, look good. feel good., we want to show that our models are fashionable for the cause. In the magazine, we discuss the impacts of breast cancer within the African American community; provide statistics, resources and local agency support. We are also contributing to the cause by donating a $1 from every pre-released hair etc. Magazine sold at Charleston?s Tanger Outlet Store to Hollings Cancer Center for breast cancer research, The formal check presentation will be made to Hollings Cancer Center, during the hair etc. Beauty & Health Expo, July 27-28, 2007. |
